Bowlers Second in Alabama

Feb. 22, 2013

BESSEMER, AL—Vanderbilt went through the first day of the Holiday Classic with four wins in five games and was in second place in total pin fall heading into Saturday’s team games.

The Commodores knocked over 3,856 pins to trail Arkansas State (3,961), who had a perfect 5-0 day and was the only team to conquer Vandy.

The fifth-rated ‘Dores opened their day with four wins over Tulane, Texas Southern, Jackson State and eighth-rated Sam Houston State before ending the day on a down note to ASU. The day’s format was four-game Baker sets.

“We bowled well during the first four games but we were disappointed with our production against Arkansas State,” said Coach John Williamson. “We bowled everyone that made the trip at some point during the day; I thought Kim (Carper) did very well.”

The team games begin Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the Holiday Lanes. Alabama A & M is serving as host of the tournament. Games will be streamed on UStream.
