Bowlers second after first day at FDU

Oct. 31, 2008

ELMWOOD PARK, NJ — Vanderbilt’s bowlers are in second place after the first day of Baker games at the 12-team Fright Knight Invite, hosted by Fairleigh Dickinson University.

The Commodores averaged a strong 205 over 25 games and trail the hosts by 140 pins heading into Satuday’s action.

“For the first four rounds we did a nice job of controlling what we can control,” Coach John Williamson analyzed afterward, “but in our final match of the day, I think we realize we got away from our own game and to their credit, FDU put together a very good game.”

The Commodores experimented throughout the day with the order of their lineup that included seniors Michelle Peloquin and Tara Kane, junior Josie Earnest, sophomore Brittany Garcia and freshman Brittni Hamilton. Sophomore Amanda Halter got into the fray in the third game of the day against St. Francis.

“Overall this was a positive day for Vanderbilt bowling,” Williamson reminded. “But it was a typical first-day in some respects and we will get better fundamentally.”

Saturday’s play will be five traditional team games. At the end of play, the total pin fall for both days will be combined and the top four teams will be placed in a play-off Sunday morning that will determine this tournament champion.
