10/19/2005 A new look Vanderbilt bowling team opens its 2005-06 season today in Huntsville, Ala., against Alabama A & M. Coach John Williamson’s team had qualifying games last week and the top seven qualifers included freshmen Tara Kane (Greensburg, Pa.), Karen Grygiel (Brick, N.J.), Michelle Peloquin (Endfield, Ct.), Kaitlin Reynolds (Loves Park, Ill.) and Mandy Keily (Brighton, Colo) along with seniors Jessica Tower (Denver, Colo.) and Jennifer Redmond (Charlotte, N.C.)

“We have had a very encouraging opening month of practice and workouts,” Williamson says. ?”I am very pleased with the attitude and work ethic of this team. ? We’re working hard with early morning yoga, weight training and practice. ?Our team chemistry is good, we are blending new personnel with veterans and the results have been favorable.

“It’s not only the freshmen that are putting up good scores,” Williamson continues. ?”A number of our veterans have improved their games over the summer and will contribute to our success as the year progresses. ?We are optimistic and expect to be competitive but anytime you have a young team that has not been battle tested you can only hope to find consistency.”

The competition will be held at the Huntsville Pin Palace beginning at 2 p.m. ?Results will be posted on this web site Wednesday evening.
