Bowlers open Friday at Tulane

The Event: Tulane is hosting the All-State Sugar Bowl Invitational Friday-Sunday at the AMF All Star Lanes in Kenner, La. This will be Vanderbilt’s first appearance at the relatively new tournament.

The Field: Alabama A&M, Alabama State, Bethune-Cookman, Florida A&M, Grambling, Jackson State, La Tech, Sam Houston, Southern, Stephen F. Austin, Texas Southern, Tulane, UAB Vanderbilt

VU’s Travel Party: Seniors Natalie Goodman, Rebeca Reguero, Nicole Mosesso, juniors Amanda Fry, Tori Ferris and Robyn Renslow, sophomores Olivia Wirtz and Giselle Poss and freshman Katie Stark will make the trip.

Arriving in Style: Vanderbilt will travel to New Orleans in style, taking a customized sleeper bus complete with beds, kitchen and wireless. The team will travel overnight, arriving Thursday morning in time to check into its hotel and take a tour of the city before an afternoon practice session. When possible and practical, the Commodore program tries to incorporate an educational side-trip into its itinerary.

Format: Friday’s Baker games begin at 9:30 a.m. There will be five, 5-game Bakers. Saturday’s five team games start at 9 o’clock and Sunday the championship bracket play, best four of seven Bakers, also starts at 9 a.m.

The Coach’s View: “We are looking forward to participating in this tournament and getting our season officially underway. You always have some questions when a new year begins, even with an experienced team. We’ve had a good few weeks of practice and are excited to learn more about where we are at this weekend.”
