Bowlers on the Road Again

Nov. 15, 2007

MILLSBORO, DE—Vanderbilt bowlers travel once again this week, this time to Maryland-Eastern Shore’s Hawk Classic. The Commodores are the defending champions.

“This is a big field of predominantly eastern schools,” Coach John Williamson says. “We are spending our time focusing upon ourselves. We ended the Whitewater tournament with good intensity, something we have lacked through much of the fall. And we are still searching for our best personnel combinations; we have good depth so this could well be a matter throughout our entire season where different days see different people in the lineup depending upon the circumstances.”

The No. 1 rated Commodores will travel with the same eight as they did a week ago when their late rally fell just short and they finished second to Nebraska at the Cheeseland Invitational.

Those eight include juniors Karen Grygiel, third individually last weekend, Michelle Peloquin and Tara Kane, sophomores Josie Earnest, sixth last week, and Ashley Belden and freshmen Ellen Morrison, Amanda Halter and Brittany Garcia.

The tournament begins at the Millsboro Lanes Saturday at 10:30 with six team games. Sunday continues with five Baker games (4-game sets) with total pins again being the placement criteria.

Participating teams include: Adelphi, Bowie State, Coppin State, Cheney, Delaware State, Fairleigh Dickinson, Grambling, Howard, Hampton, Kutztown, Morgan State, New Jersey City, Norfolk State, Sacred Heart, Saint Peters, Saint Paul’s, Winston-Salem State along with host Maryland Eastern Shore and Vanderbilt, the finalists at last spring’s NCAA Championship.

Vanderbilt takes a 17-5 mark into the tournament.
