Bowlers move into first place on Day 2

Jan. 17, 2009

CABOT, Ark. – The Commodore bowling team submitted drastically better performances in its second day at the Arkansas State’s Mid-Winter Invitational Saturday, winning all of its team game matches.

“We were polar opposites of how bad we were yesterday, we were that good today,” John Williamson, VU head coach, stated. “We were lights out all day.”

The `Dores moved into first place at the tournament after qualifying fifth on the first day of competition Friday. Williamson’s squad compiled five games totaling over 900 points each, including three plus-1,000 contests, despite not posting a single 900 game Friday.

“Today was the first day that we’ve had to respond to some adversity,” Williamson reflected. “Yesterday was pretty tough. We missed a lot of spares.”

Brittni Hamilton registered a team-high five games over 200, including a 242 in her first tilt. Tara Kane topped her teammate, however, for a VU individual score of 243 against Louisiana Tech.

“I think they responded very well,” noted the VU Head Coach. “All the things we did poorly yesterday we did very well today. I’m just proud of their effort and the way they competed today.”

The Commodores will wrap up tournament play Sunday morning.
