Bowlers leading in Lincoln

Nov. 5, 2009

LINCOLN, Neb. – Vanderbilt held the lead after Thursday’s first round of the University of Nebraska’s Big Red Invite but its sluggish finish left the Commodores with mixed feelings.

After a series of four, four-game Baker matches, the Commodores lead this total pin fall event by 22 pins over Central Missouri heading into Friday and Saturday’s team game play.

However, after starting with three strong showings, the Black and Gold stumbled in the evening’s finale and not only lost to Minnesota State-Mankato but posted mediocre scores in the process.

“I think we showed our immaturity as a team in that last game,” said Coach John Williamson. “We came into the game with momentum and averaging over 200 on the day and then took our foot off the gas. We have to learn how to finish and how to handle success. We were cruising along, then hit a speed bump.”

The Commodores went 3-1 for the night with Baker wins over Valparaiso, Prairie View and Arkansas State before the stumble to Minnesota State.
