Bowlers in third at Morgan State

Feb. 14, 2009

PERRY HALL, Md. — Vanderbilt is in third place at the halfway mark of the Morgan State Invitational but well within striking distance of the two leaders.

The top-ranked Commodores, 62-13, had an inconsistent day despite dispatching five opponents and are 76 pins out of the lead held by Nebraska. Fairleigh Dickinson is second in the large field of 30.

“We haven’t been in a tournament for three weeks and I think it showed,” Coach John Williamson said. “We didn’t execute well but hopefully we will come back tomorrow and perform to our capabilities. I thought Brittni (Hamilton), Josie (Earnest) and Michelle (Peloquin) bowled pretty well for most of the day and Karen (Grygiel) came off the bench and did well the last two games.”

Vanderbilt’s best game came against fifth-ranked Delaware State, topping the 1,000 pin mark for the only time of its day.

Sunday’s action consists of five, four-game Baker sets with the team champion crowned on total pins for both days.

Individual results had not been distributed to the coaches several hours after competition stopped.
