Bowlers head to Nebraska

Nov. 4, 2009

LINCOLN, Neb. – Vanderbilt’s bowling team will see if the momentum from its season-opening victory at the Greater Ozark Invitational two weeks ago carries over when it opens play Thursday at the Big Red Invite, hosted by the University of Nebraska.

It is the first tournament hosted by the Huskers since the Vanderbilt program was founded six years ago. Eight teams comprise the field including Arkansas State, Central Missouri, Valparaiso, Minnesota-Mankato, Prairie View and Elmhurst.

“This is a total pins event and we have more matches than the typical tournament,” Commodore Coach John Williamson notes. “We’ll play four Baker matches Thursday, then five team games Friday and five more team games Saturday.”

Pairings have already been made. Thursday evening’s Bakers see Vanderbilt facing Valparaiso in the first round, then Prairie View, Arkansas State and Minnesota-Mankato. Play begins at 6:20 p.m. CT.

Vanderbilt will take seven bowlers on the trip: Brittni Hamilton, Jessica Earnest, Kim Carper, Amanda Halter, Ashley Belden, Kayla Rhoades and Josie Earnest.

The tournament will be played on the Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln and daily Commodore results will be posted on this site.
