HOUSTON, TX—Vanderbilt went unbeaten in six games Saturday and moved up one notch on the leader board, finishing the day in sixth position heading into Sunday’s action at the LadyJack Classic. The Commodores face Central Missouri in Sunday’s opening best of seven Baker play, the first of three bracket games.

Included among the Commodores’ victims were Top 10 opponents Maryland-Eastern Shore and Wisconsin-Whitewater. Other wins came against Monmouth, Southern, Texas Southern and surprising Long Island-Brooklyn.

After starting the team games with three wins, the fourth game involved the UMES Hawks, ranked No. 8 nationally. Anchor Robyn Renslow bailed her Commodores out with a sterling 247 in an otherwise low scoring, grind-it-out 938-903 game. In the day’s finale, big games came from Katie Stark (234), Nicole Powell (208) and Renslow (232) as Vandy topped No. 9 Wisconsin-Whitewater.

“It was really good to beat two strong teams in the last half of the day,” Coach John Williamson said. “The UMES game was significant because we started poorly and were on an 850 pace midway through. Robyn had eight in a row to close but everyone picked their games up late. Long Island has been bowling well and we held them off to win, then had a good team effort to beat a good Whitewater team.”

Renslow finished second individually with a 221 average, well behind the pace setting Thashaina Seraus of UMES who had a whopping 240 average. Stark was 13th, Powell 17th.

Powell, a sophomore and one of three lefties that occupied the VU lineup all afternoon, had a career best 258 to propel her team over Texas Southern, 1,080-923. Vanderbilt used all six of its travel team members during the long day with Stark, Powell, Poss and Renslow playing in all six games and Amanda Fry and Rebeca Reguero splitting time.

Nebraska leads the team standings after two days (12,575 pins) with Stephen F. Austin, Long Island-Brooklyn, Sam Houston, Central Missouri and Vanderbilt following in the 18 team field.
