BEL AIR, MD—Vanderbilt went 5-0 Saturday in team game competition and was in third place based on total pins at the Morgan State University Invitational.
The second-rated Commodores trail first place Nebraska by about 300 pins and second place Fairleigh Dickinson heading into Sunday’s Baker games.
“I thought for the most part that we performed pretty well today,” said Coach John Williamson. “We showed improvement over our last outing. We got very good performances from Josie Earnest and Karen Grygiel and by and large we were steady all day with good balance.”
While Nebraska and FDU both met other top challengers in the big, 24-team field that could have helped push their efforts, Vanderbilt’s only encounter with a highly rated team was with Sacred Heart. Teams drew for opponents, standard procedure in large events. Williamson felt good that his team kept its intensity against all five foes.
The five wins improve Vanderbilt’s season mark to 51-10. There are five Baker games set for Sunday.
