SADDLE BROOK, NJ—Vanderbilt looked every bit like a team in its first tournament of the year, sputtering to four wins in six games while failing to cash in on opportunities throughout the long day.

The Commodores beat New Jersey City, Valparaiso, Bethune-Cookman and Adelphi while losing to Fairleigh Dickinson and Kutztown. They finished the two days of qualifying in sixth place out of the 20 schools and second in their division with a 6-4 overall mark.

There were rays of optimism as Coach John Williamson “thought Amanda Fry had a good day with a 208 average and (Nicole) Mosesso and (Giselle) Poss had their moments.” But Vandy endured rough edges, especially in the category of missed makeable spare shooting.

“We were off-kilter and moved a freshman into the anchor spot for much of the day,” Williamson said. “That can be a tough spot for someone in their first collegiate tournament.”

Sunday’s bracket status was not known as of this posting and will be updated as soon as information arrives. Sunday’s games are best-of-seven Bakers.
