Bowlers Go 4-1 in Arkansas

Feb. 3, 2007

JONESBORO, AR—Vanderbilt struggled with unfamiliar lane conditions while winning four of five games at the Mid-Winter NCAA Classic, hosted by Arkansas State.

“We had a very hard time adjusting to the lane conditions today and our scores reflected that,” said Coach John Williamson. “We don’t see these conditions often but we must learn to adjust and we have to be able to put a bad ball or a bad game behind us. We can’t get down on ourselves, we have to compete.”

The Commodores 4-1 ledger puts them in seventh place in this 17 team event with five more team games tomorrow. Vanderbilt topped Delaware State, Southern, Fontbonne and Bethune-Cookman while being upset by Jackson State.

Tara Kane, who won this event last year, was Vanderbilt’s top individual Saturday, landing in ninth place individually.

“I am expecting we will perform better tomorrow,” Williamson said. “As I’ve said often before, I am only interested in how we bowl. I’d like to see us regain some competitive spirit and learn from what we saw today, turn that into something positive.”
