Bowlers go 1-3 in Arkansas

Jan. 17, 2014

JONESBORO, ARK—Vanderbilt’s bowling team started fast, sputtered in the middle and managed to end on an good note in the first day of Arkansas State’s Mid-Winter Classic.

The Commodores won just one of four matches (one game was in a bye round), defeating Valparaiso and losing to Nebraska, Sam Houston State and Central Missouri.

“We started off hot but in the third game against Nebraska we had a few breaks go against us and we lost a tough one,” Coach John Williamson said. “We seemed to carry those mistakes with us the next games. We need to become more consistent – in the first 10 games we had just one missed makeable spare and in the next 12 games we had 15. We are too experienced for that to happen.”

The tournament continues Saturday with team games beginning at 9:40 a.m.
