CABOT, Ark. – Brittni Hamilton and Josie Earnest joined the Arkansas State Mid-Winter Invitational all-tournament team Sunday, after the Commodores finished in third place at the ASU Invite.
The `Dores opened play Sunday with wins over Southern University and Central Missouri in the qualifying rounds of the four-game Baker contests. Vanderbilt then lost to eventual tournament winner Delaware State in the first round for placement, and then lost to Nebraska in the next round.
“We couldn’t use the momentum that we had yesterday,” John Williamson, VU head coach, said. “We struggled a little bit at the start of the bracket. We didn’t execute the way that we needed to and missed some opportunities.”
The VU Bowlers defeated Maryland Eastern Shore, the 2008 National Champions, in their last match of the day to grab third place.
“The last match against Maryland Eastern Shore was a positive,” noted Williamson. “We were able to come out and produce some high scores and beat them very soundly.”
Hamilton, who averaged 229 for the tournament, and Earnest, who averaged 210, finished No. 1 and No. 2 on the six member all-tournament team.
The Commodores return to action in the Greater Ozark Invitational on Jan. 23.
