Bowlers Finish Out Weekend, Finish Third

11/13/2005

MANKATO, MN—Vanderbilt’s bowling team placed third in a field of seven while freshman Michelle Peloquin was edged out for the individual title and placed second Sunday at the Maverick Challenge, hosted by Minnesota State University.

The Commodores dispatched Elmhurst College by a 982-825 margin and lost a game to Minnesota State, 936-916. Nebraska was the team champion and Central Missouri was second.

Peloquin began the day in first place individually with a 233 average and rolled steady games of 217 and 237. However, Central Missouri’s Brianna Caldwell threw a perfect 300 game and ended the tournament with a 234 average, three better than Peloquin.

“I thought we showed improvement in this tournament,” Coach John Williamson said. “We were staying close to that 1,000 team score average we want. We actually bowled okay against Minnesota State except for leaving 11 splits and only converting one of them.”

In addition to Peloquin’s second place finish, Commodore freshmen Karen Grygiel finished seventh and Kaitlin Reynolds was 10th. There were no Baker games played in the tournament.

Vanderbilt, with an overall team record of 11-12, will travel to Delaware next weekend for the Eastern Hawk Invitational, an event hosted by Maryland-Eastern Shores.
