Bowlers finish ninth at Kutztown

Jan. 31, 2010

READING, Pa. — Vanderbilt ended a disappointing weekend with a ninth place finish at the Kutztown Invitational Sunday.

It was an unusual sight to see the Commodores in a last-day bracket that was not for the tourney championship but it is where several days of inconsistent bowling cast against many of the nation’s best teams landed them.

The team was looking for improvement in the first two games of the day and while the level of performance may have picked up a bit, both games still resulted in losses. At this point, final standings brackets were set and VU was in a grouping with St. Francis, Adelphi and Morgan State playing for ninth.

The team’s Sunday Baker lineup was Jessica Earnest, Brittany Garcia, Ashley Belden, Brittni Hamilton and Josie Earnest.

The ‘Dores polished off St. Francis in four straight games before topping Morgan State in the bracket finale. The MSU win came after both teams had won three games with one ending in a 211-211 tie. Vandy won a five frame tie-breaker, 110-95.

Their next tournament will be at the McKendree Baker Challenge Feb. 6-7.
