A strong showing during its three fall tournaments propelled Vanderbilt’s bowling team in to the top ranking of the December poll by the National Tenpins Coaches Association.

The Commodores, 29-10, garnered 14 first place votes after winning the Greater Ozark Invitational and the Hawk Classic and finishing third at the Big Red Invite. They had been second in the season’s first poll.

Maryland-Eastern Shore held down second place, two notches higher than its previous rank, after crafting a 39-11 won-loss mark. Delaware State was third with Arkansas State and Fairleigh Dickinson rounding out the top five.

Vanderbilt is idle until January 29 when it makes its first appearance at the Kutztown Invitational in Kutztown, Pa.
