Bowlers aim for third straight

Dec. 5, 2008

MIDLOATHIAN, Va. — Two weeks ago the question was whether Vanderbilt’s bowling team could win its third straight Hawk Classic. It could.

This weekend’s question becomes whether the Commodores, 26-5, can win their third straight tournament at the Jeanette Lee Invitational, hosted by Saint Paul’s College, Saturday and Sunday. It marks the first time in the program’s five year existence that it has entered this event.

“We will see some new teams in this tournament along with some of our good rivals,” says Coach John Williamson. “It will be our first appearance with Central Missouri this year while New Jersey City and Fairleigh Dickinson are among the headliners in the field.”

It’s been a Black and Gold fall season so far. Vanderbilt won FDU’s tournament in early November, followed by Maryland-Eastern Shore’s Hawk Classic behind strong and consistent performances.

The Commodores are adding senior Karen Grygiel to their prior travel team of Michelle Peloquin, Tara Kane, Josie Earnest, Brittany Garcia, Brittni Hamilton and Amanda Halter.

The tournament will be held at Bowl America Southwest, starting Saturday at 10:50 ET with six traditional team games. Sunday’s matches will be five (four-game) Baker matches.
