Vanderbilt is rated eighth in the December poll of collegiate bowling coaches, conducted by the National Ten Pin Coaches Association.
The Commodores (26-13) had a strong finish to their fall season but experienced periods of inconsistency in their four events and slipped from a pre-season rank of second. Arkansas State moved up from fourth to first after compiling a 31-11 record.
“We have always said we don’t put a lot of emphasis on the polls,” said Vanderbilt Coach John Williamson. “They offer a snapshot of national opinion. We learned a lot about ourselves during the fall, liked the way we ended it and look forward to starting back up in January.”
Vanderbilt resumes action Jan. 17 at Arkansas State’s Mid-Winter Classic.
