Bowler Peloquin Signs National Letter 4/28/2005 One of the nation’s premier high school student-athletes has signed the national letter of intent to attend Vanderbilt, Bowling Coach John Williamson announced Thursday. Michelle Peloquin of Enrico Fermi High School in Enfield, Conn., whose vast resume includes five perfect 300 games, chose the Commodores over a host of other schools. She joins an already strong quartet of newcomers that signed national letters earlier this month. “Michelle Peloquin is a truly outstanding student-athlete,” Williamson says. “She is the valedictorian of her graduating class of 304 and very few people in the country can match her bowling success. We have been recruiting Michelle since we began our program and are thrilled that she realized the tremendous opportunities that Vanderbilt has to offer.” Peloquin carved out an enviable bowling pedigree despite the fact that the state of Connecticut does not offer the sport in high school. In addition to her five perfect games and two games of 299, she has a high series of 780, a high sanctioned league average of 231 and a high tournament sanctioned average of 216. She has competed at the Junior Gold National Bowling Championships since 2001 and won the Connecticut State Pepsi Tournament for Scratch Girls Division four consecutive years and counting. Peloquin has won four Scratch Junior Bowlers Tour titles, two Keystone Junior Bowlers Tour Girls Scratch championships, the 2003 Keystone Junior Bowlers Tour Tournament of Champions, the 2004 and 2005 All Events Girls Scratch in the Central Connecticut Junior Bowlers Association and currently leads the point standings of the New England Conference on the Junior Bowlers Tour. She was also the goal keeper of her high school’s soccer team, which made it to the State Class L Tournament in 2003 and 2004. She won the 2005 Connecticut High School Scholar-Athlete Award and twice was picked for the Central Connecticut All-Academic team. Academically, in addition to her valedictorian honors, she is a member of the National Honor Society, and received the Excellence in Geometry Award, Excellence in Algebra 2 Award, Excellent in Pre-Calculus Award and Excellence in Spanish Awards. Michelle was semi-finalist for the Governor’s Scholar-Athlete Award, winner of the Harvard Prize Book Award and nominated for the Wendy’s High School Heisman. She was also winner of the 2005 Connecticut Scholar-Athlete Award. Vanderbilt has already signed Karen Grygiel of Brick, N.J., Tara Kane of Greensburg, Pa., Mandy Keiley of Brighton, Colo., and Kaitlin Reynolds of Loves Park, Ill. |
