GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Vanderbilt senior Liz Sherwood and sophomore Jessica Mooney came off the bench to lead the Commodore women’s basketball team to a 66-56 Southeastern Conference road victory at Florida Thursday inside the O’Connell Center.

Sherwood posted the fifth double-double of her career, scoring 20 points and pulling 12 rebounds. Mooney added 16 points, three assists and three steals. Junior Christina Wirth was also in double-figures, scoring 15 points, while junior Jennifer Risper had a great all-around game with 10 rebounds, five steals, three assists and no turnovers.

The Commodores never trailed in the game, building a 14-point lead midway through the first half before a Florida run cut the margin to five at halftime, 30-25. Sherwood took over in the second stanza, scoring 15 of her game-high 20.

Vanderbilt continues on the road this weekend, traveling to Athens, Ga., to face the No. 17/14 Georgia Lady Bulldogs. The Commodores are paying off the return leg of a home-and-home series after beating Georgia, 67-59, in Nashville earlier this month.
