Vanderbilt Head Coach Steve Keith:
On the women’s team performance:
“I was pleasantly surprised considering the fact that we’ve only been running together for a week. We haven’t really done any quality training whatsoever. I thought they were very competitive. The freshmen jumped up and contributed quite a bit. We had three freshmen (Rita Jorgensen, Adrienne DiRaddo, Erin Guglielmo) in our top five. To finish only five points behind Tennessee, given our situation, was a nice start and will give our women a lot of confidence.”
On the men’s team performance:
“The men did well. Austin Williamson ran a nice, tough race. Belmont has a team that could conceivably make the NCAA Championships, and he ran well with those guys. Thomas Davis is coming off of an injury and will be back to full strength in a couple of weeks. Rick Semones should be singled out. He had an excellent race.”
On the three freshmen women runners:
“Rita Jorgensen looked good. She handled the hills very well. That’s very nice because we’ll have a hilly conference championship in Lexington, Ky. Adrienne DiRaddo was obviously very motivated to do well in college and jumped right up there with Carmen Mims. I was happy to see Erin Guglielmo step up and help out as our fifth runner.”
