NASHVILLE, Tenn. –– The No. 11/10 Vanderbilt men’s basketball advanced to 16-0 (3-0 SEC) on Saturday with an 84-73 victory over LSU (12-4, 0-3 SEC), matching the program record for an undefeated start set in 2007-08. The Commodores never trailed in the afternoon matchup.
Five Commodores reached double figures in scoring. Tyler Nickel registered his first career double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Tyler Tanner scored 20 points, his fifth time this season reaching that mark. Duke Miles added 17 points with five assists. AK Okereke had 12 points with nine rebounds while Jalen Washington notched 11 points and eight rebounds.
Vanderbilt led the way from the jump, taking a 14-point lead into the half. LSU twice cut the lead down to seven in the second period, but the Commodores held on to remain undefeated. Vandy forced 14 turnovers in the game, notching 10 steals and six blocks.
LSU’s Max Mackinnon led the team with 27 points, four rebounds and four assists. Marquel Sutton scored 13 with six rebounds.
