He comes to Vanderbilt from WalnutHillHigh School, where he was an assistant coach, and from coaching a Cincinnati based AAU traveling team. “We’ve known Kornell for a long time,” said Head Coach Melanie Balcomb. “You want people in your program who love the game and want to be around it. You want someone with personality and someone who has great rapport with kids, parents and coaches. You want someone who knows the game. Kornell is that someone and he’s a terrific addition.” Battle, 31, is a product of GreenhillsHigh School in Cincinnati and graduated from Columbus State College in 1994. Most recently he served two coaching stints at WalnutHigh School and had two AAU girl’s basketball teams. Balcomb said that among other responsibilities, Battle will be heavily involved in on-campus recruiting. “I’m looking forward to learning the ins and outs of college basketball and I expect to learn a lot from Coach Balcomb and this staff,” Battles says. “I consider it a blessing to be offered this opportunity and I will work hard to contribute to the success of this program.” He replaces Nikki Kremer, who resigned last spring to get married. |
