Basketball Journal Entry #2–Junior Ashley Earley 1-2-04 1/2/2004 As I sit here on our flight back from Miami listening to our flight attendant explain the safety regulations, a lackluster situation that we’ve all been through a hundred times, my thoughts fade back to the weekend. There were several highlights of the trip and some obvious low ones as well. Our flight to Miami was actually delayed about an hour because of air traffic around the Ft. Lauderdale airport, but when we did finally arrive in Miami we were welcomed with beautiful conditions. Warm weather was something that we had not seen in Nashville in several months. It was great to get out of the cold for a while and get a little taste of spring. Several people actually commented on possibly “laying out” in the sun if we had enough time. Out first opponent was Rhode Island, a team that was very physical and hard-nosed. They played us tough the entire game. This was also served as Abi Ramsey’s first game back, and she played awesome. She really gave us the lift (21 points and nine rebounds) we needed to get the win. It is so wonderful to have her back. The next day (Monday) we had a lot of down time before the game, so our coaches wanted us to go for a walk as opposed to just laying around the hotel all day. Luckily a mall was within walking distance of our hotel, and of course we were all ecstatic that we would have an opportunity to go shopping. We walked around for about 45 minutes before returning to the hotel. It was a fun, quick trip. In the championship game of the tournament we played the host team, Miami. They were another very physical and intense team. Unfortunately we did not match their intensity for 40 minutes. This was a very disappointing loss to us, but it was also a very good learning opportunity. We now know things that we need to work on and have a chance to improve before the SEC season starts. Many times losses are a blessing in disguise, and that’s what we will take this loss as, a blessing, a learning experience. We hope to learn from this and become a better team because of it. We want to thank all our families and fans that traveled to Miami for the tournament. We really appreciate everyone’s continued support! GO DORES |
