Pittsburgh rookie phenom Pedro Alvarez blasted a walk-off, three-run homer in front of a sold-out home crowd to lift the Pirates to a thrilling 8-7 victory over Colorado in 10 innings Saturday night.

Watch video of the play by clicking here. You gotta love the Pirates radio call… “A walk-off winner for Pedro Alvarez. How do you like that? El Toro strikes big time in extra innings!”

QUOTE OF THE DAY

“It’s pretty unreal. I can only remember one other time in my life hitting a walk-off home run. But, obviously, here, the big leagues, a packed house … nothing can beat that, except maybe a Game 7 in the World Series.”

TWEET OF THE DAY

Vanderbilt junior pitcher Sonny Gray (@SonnyGray2) –

“cant wait to head home from tokyo.. we put in alot of hard work and we are going to hang the silver medal around our neck with pride.”

Gray, along with Commodore third baseman Jason Esposito, spent the summer playing for the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team. USA lost a heartbreaker to Cuba, 4-3, in the FISU gold medal game Saturday on a walk-off three-run homer in the 10th inning.

Gray finished the tour with a 3-0 record and 0.38 ERA. In 24 innings, he allowed only eight hits and one earned run while striking out 37 and walking four. In his last outing, he shut down Japan to get USA to the championship.

Esposito hit .308 with two doubles, one homer and six RBI.

Congrats to the seven players inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame. In honor of legendary San Francisco wide receiver Jerry Rice, I give you the 49ers rap:

“We are the Niners… Don’t get in our way. Team of the 80’s… we came to play.”
