As I write I am sitting in front of the fire in beautiful Blount County (Maryville, TN). Not only do we get a few days home for Christmas, but we are coming home on a very high note.
Our trip to Pittsburgh was so great for so many reasons. Rebecca and Jence’s families were able to come to the hotel when we arrived. It was so nice to see all of them, but more importantly to get the cookies that Becca’s grandmother made for us. I also got to see one of Jence’s best friends, Tricia, who has become one of my great friends. She always can be counted on to bring some comedic relief.
When we exited the locker room for pre-game warm ups I was a little worried when I saw the stands being filled and filled with people in red (Duquesne colors) — but then I looked a little closer and saw Slippery Rock was written on their coats, sweat shirts, and t-shirts. It gave me chills to see what support Jence’s hometown has for her and the support they have for Vanderbilt. So I must say thank you to all of you for coming out and supporting us and making a much-needed road victory feel like a home one.
We had two great wins over the past four days but more than that they were two great TEAM wins. It is hard to find young players who are playing as well our fantastic freshman and sensational sophomores are. We are playing good basketball right now and can only hope to continue that after the holidays and into SEC play. Your support has helped us get through some rough patches and I know we all really appreciate it.
