NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Former Commodore great Chantelle Anderson became just the fourth Vanderbilt basketball player to have her jersey retired on Sunday.
Anderson’s jersey was unveiled in a special halftime ceremony that followed the recognition of 30 former Commodores who returned to Nashville for the inaugural women’s basketball reunion.
Joe Fisher, the voice of the Commodores, emceed the ceremony, which included a highlight video of Anderson, the unveiling of the jersey from the rafters and a speech by Anderson.
“It was so surreal to see my jersey unveiled in Memorial Gym, somewhere I was so honored to play for four years,” Anderson said. ” I’m speechless … it is one of those things you can’t put into words. I’m just so thankful and honored.”
Anderson joined Wendy Scholtens as the only two women’s players to have their jerseys retired.
Following the retirement ceremony, Anderson met with members of the media to reflect on the moment.
