Alternative commencement ceremony held for student-athletes

Vanderbilt University held its annual alternative commencement ceremony Tuesday for student-athletes who were unable to take part in commencement last Friday due to athletic competition.

The ceremony was held at Sarratt Cinema on campus and featured 11 student-athletes. Provost Susan Wente conducted the ceremony, along with Athletics Director David Williams.

Participating in the commencement ceremony were: Sara Barron (women’s track), Tyler Campbell (baseball), Skyler Carpenter (women’s track), Courtney Colton (women’s tennis), Katherine Delaney (women’s track), Rhys Johnson (men’s tennis), Kyle Smith (baseball), Vanessa Valentine (women’s track), Faith Washington (women’s track), Lily Williams (women’s track) and Kris Yee (men’s tennis).

In attendance at the ceremony were athletic staff, teammates and family members of the graduates.
