NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Ana Wallace and Nick Laning were each recognized with All-Region honors on Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) following NCAA Regional Championships Friday.
Wallace, who earned All-SEC Freshman honors earlier this month, added All-Region accolades to her rookie campaign with a top 25 finish. In a homecoming race at NCAA Regionals, the Tallahassee native placed 24th overall with a time of 20:45.6.
The second man in program history to earn All-SEC honors, Laning also earned All-Region honors with his 20th-place finish of 30:58.6 in the 10-kilometer race.
Behind Wallace, the Vanderbilt women finished with 166 points, which beat out Alabama by a single point for a top-five finish. Just two weeks ago at the SEC meet, the Crimson Tide were five points better than the Commodores.
Shortly thereafter, Laning and the men beat out four SEC teams and finished 11th with 303 points. At the conference meet, Tennessee was 18 points better than the Commodores, but at the Regional meet, Vanderbilt bettered its in-state rival by 17 points.
