Alexander, Stowers Up For Tyler Rose Award

Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award given to the top offensive player from Texas

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt football student-athletes Sedrick Alexander and Eli Stowers have been named to the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List, as announced by the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce Wednesday.

The award is given annually to the top NCAA Division I offensive football player who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity. Nominees must have either played and graduated from a Texas high school or be currently playing at a D-I, four-year college in Texas.

Alexander, a native of Austin, Texas, was on the SEC All-Freshman team and SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll last year as a true freshman. He played in all 12 games, logging 504 all-purpose yards. He led the team in rushing and rushing touchdowns. His 371 rushing yards were the most among SEC freshmen last season and he was the only rookie in the league with four or more rushing touchdowns.

He was named to the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Honorable Mention list on Sept. 6 after rushing for 87 yards and two touchdowns in a win over Alabama A&M. He was the first Commodore running back with multiple touchdowns in a game since 2019.

Stowers, from Denton, Texas, is in his first season at Vanderbilt after transferring from New Mexico State. He was honorable mention All-CUSA for the Aggies last fall, making 35 receptions for 366 yards and two touchdowns. He added 29 rushes for 113 yards and two scores and completed four passes for 99 yards and a touchdown.

It was his first season playing tight end after beginning his career as a four-star quarterback prospect at Texas A&M. He played five games at quarterback with Texas A&M before transferring to NMSU, where he then switched to tight end.

The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose watch list will be narrowed to 16 semifinalists in November before five finalists are named in December. The winner will be announced at a banquet in January 2025.

Alexander, Stowers and the Commodores open the season on Aug. 31 when Virginia Tech visits FirstBank Stadium (11 a.m. on ESPN). Click here to buy tickets.
