Junior Marina Alex qualified for match play at the U.S. Amateur in Charlotte after finishing the two-day stroke play portion of the event in a tie for 29th. The Wayne, N.J., native advanced to the match play portion of the tournament by finishing in the top 64 at the Charlotte Country Club.
Alex shot a second-round 77 and finished at 147 in the stroke play competition.
Alex will take on Victoria Tanko of Bradenton, Fla., in her first round match on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. EST.
Notable
-Alex will be the number 32 seed in match play competition. Tanko will be the 33rd seed. -Alex had roller coaster round on Tuesday, with two birdies, 11 pars, four bogeys, and a double bogey.
-Her two birdies came on number four and five, two holes she also birdied in Monday’s round.
-Alex teed off on number 10 Tuesday morning, and had three bogeys and a double in her first five holes.
