Aimee Neff named to WG Coaching Staff

May 30, 2016

Vanderbilt head women’s golf coach Greg Allen has announced the hiring of Aimee Neff as an assistant women’s golf coach for the Commodores. Neff joins the Vanderbilt staff after spending three seasons as an assistant at Michigan State.

“This is a big-time hire for our program,” said Allen. “I was looking for someone to come in and immediately make an impact with our team on and off the golf course. We get that with Aimee. Her experience as player at Michigan State, as a professional and as a coach at Michigan State was very impressive to the search committee. This experience will be vital for our program moving forward. We are excited to welcome Aimee to the Vandy Women’s Golf family.”

A native of Carmel, Indiana, Neff played four years at Michigan State and is one of only three Spartans to earn All-Big Ten honors four times, including first-team accolades as a senior in 2011 as she helped Michigan State to its ninth Big Ten Championship. She ranks fifth all-time in Spartan history with a 76.10 scoring average. As a coach, Neff helped the Spartans to the 2014 Big 10 Championship and an appearance in the NCAA Championship that season.

“I am thrilled to be joining the Vanderbilt family!,” said Neff. “Vanderbilt truly is the total package with its outstanding academic reputation, prime location, first-class facilities and wonderful staff. It is a blessing to be a Commodore. I look forward to the opportunity to coach and mentor our student-athletes on and off the course in preparing them for success academically and athletically. Go ‘Dores!”

Neff, who was a second-team All-Big Ten selection in 2008, 2009 and 2010 as a player, recorded 13 top-10 finishes in her career and her round of 68 in the 2009 Lady Northern Invitational is tied for the second-lowest single-round in school history. She was awarded the Big Ten Conference Medal of Honor as a senior in 2011.

Neff was a two-time winner of both the Illinois Women’s Open (2008, 2009) and Indiana Women’s Open (2009, 2010) and claimed the Indiana Women’s Golf Association Match Play Championship in 2008. She also competed in the 2005 U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship, two U.S. Women’s Amateur Championships (2009, 2010) and five U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championships.

Neff’s success wasn’t limited to the golf course, as she graduated with a 3.66 GPA in communication in May 2011. She was named to the National Golf Coaches Association All-Scholar Team and Academic All-Big Ten Team in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

Neff has played as a professional on the Symetra Tour from 2011-14. In 2012, Neff played in the U.S. Women’s Open at Black Wolf Run in Kohler, Wisconsin.
