Vanderbilt volleyball fell in three sets at No. 13 Texas A&M

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Vanderbilt volleyball middle Jackie Moore tallied nine kills and hit .412, her third match this season hitting above .400, against 13th-ranked Texas A&M at Reed Arena on Friday night.

Off the bench, Mia Soerensen posted a team-high three blocks and a pair of kills. Hailee Mack and Reese Animashaun both tallied double-digit digs, with 11 and 12, respectively.

Offensively, Vanderbilt (4-7, 0-2 SEC) was paced once again by Kamryn Chaney, who registered 11 kills, and Isabella Bareford, who recorded 23 assists.

Texas A&M (10-2, 2-0 SEC) hit .374 as a team en route to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-15) sweep over the Commodores. Senior Logan Lednicky led the way for the Aggies with 15 kills, hitting at a .480 clip. The opposite also recorded seven digs and three blocks. Senior middle blocker Ifenna Cos-Okpalla tallied a team-high five blocks.

The Aggies recorded eight service aces, the most allowed by the Dores all season. Cos-Okpalla and Kyndal Stowers each recorded a trio of aces.

Vanderbilt took an early lead in set 1 off four unanswered points. The Aggies went on an 8-2 run midway through the set to gain a 16-13 advantage. Despite Vanderbilt’s best efforts to sideout, the Aggie offense took advantage of several short scoring runs to take the opening set by a score of 25-19.

Texas A&M’s momentum carried into the following set, which it led the entire time. The Commodores, however, continued to fight, putting up four straight points late in the second set to cut the Aggies’ lead to four. Vanderbilt fell, 25-20, in set 2 as Texas A&M took a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Aggies closed out the sweep on a 25-15 win in set 3.

Vanderbilt returns home to host Oklahoma on Friday for its first conference match at Memorial Gymnasium. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
