NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt women’s basketball student-athlete Ryanne Allen was named the SEC Freshman of the Week it was announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Allen was recognized after scoring 11 of the Commodores’ 15 points in overtime, highlighted by the 3-pointer that gave Vandy the lead for good with 28 seconds left in the game, in a 75-70 come-from-behind victory at Louisiana Tech last Thursday.
She finished the contest with 14 points—the second-highest total Allen has recorded at the collegiate level thus far—on 4-of-6 shooting from 3-point range, tying a career high in 3-pointers while scoring in double figures for the first time in five outings.
She is the third member of the program to earn SEC Freshman-of-the-Week honors in the last two seasons, joining teammates Iyana Moore and Sacha Washington.
The Commodores are next in action when Vanderbilt plays host to Lipscomb Sunday at 2 p.m. at Memorial Gymnasium.
