NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A total of 12 Vanderbilt sport programs scored above the national average in the most recent NCAA Academic Progress Rates (APR) released Tuesday, with nearly half of those teams posting a perfect mark.
Five Commodore programs received public recognition awards after earning a score of 1,000 in the report, which were based on marks from the 2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23 and 2023-24 academic years: bowling, women’s cross country, men’s and women’s golf and lacrosse. Other Vandy squads that finished with a mark above the 984 national NCAA Division I average included baseball, men’s basketball, soccer, swimming, men’s and women’s tennis and women’s track and field.
Additionally, Vanderbilt’s football, men’s basketball, women’s cross country, men’s and women’s golf, men’s tennis and women’s track programs ended up among the top half in the Southeastern Conference, with bowling leading Conference USA and lacrosse tops in the American Athletic Conference as well.
Every Division I sports team’s APR is calculated using a simple and consistent formula each academic year: scholarship student-athletes can earn one point for staying on course for a degree in their chosen major and one point for being retained (or graduating) at the end of each academic term.
