Abi Ramsey Named SEC Player of the Week

Vanderbilt senior guard Abi Ramsey has been named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week the league announced Monday.

Ramsey averaged 22.0 points and 3.5 rebounds and three assists while shooting 50.0 percent (10-of-20) from beyond the arc for the week helping lead Vanderbilt to a 2-0 week. Ramsey finished the week shooting 58.3 percent (14-of-24) from the floor.
 
The Monteagle, Tenn. native set a new single-game record for three-pointers made when she hit eight three-pointers in the 84-73 home win over Florida. Ramsey finished the game with a career-high 30 points and added four rebounds and five assists. Ramsey added 14 points including two big three-pointers in the second half to help the Commodores win on the road at Kentucky, 73-67.
 
This marks the first Player of the Week honor for Ramsey. She is the first Commodore to win SEC Player of the Week since Carla Thomas earned the award on Feb. 23, 2004.
 
Ramsey became the school’s all-time leader in three-pointers made earlier this season and now has 225 career three-pointers with seven regular season games remaining. Julie Powell held the previous record with 203 treys. Ramsey is averaging 11.6 points while shooting 42.9 percent (60-of-140) from three-point range. She ranks third in the SEC in three-point field goal percentage and first in three-pointers made per game (3.00).
 
Vanderbilt (15-5, 4-3 SEC) travels to Miss. State (14-6, 3-4 SEC) Thursday. The game starts at 8 p.m. CT and will be televised by Fox Sports Net South.
