Vanderbilt’s bowling team looks to continue its strong start this weekend as they travel to Greenwood, Miss., for the Mississippi Valley State Invitational. The fourth-ranked Commodores captured their first team title since the varsity program began in 2004 by winning the Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawk Classic, leading start to finish in a field of 19 teams.

While the tournament at Maryland-Eastern Shores two weeks ago was largely northeastern programs, this event will include many Central Region squads. Teams attending include Arkansas State, Grambling, Jackson State, Louisiana Tech, Minnesota State-Mankato, Mississippi Valley State, Nebraska, Southern and Texas Southern.

“We spent the majority of this week getting back into the school groove after fall and Thanksgiving break,” says Coach John Williamson. “We want to see high level, consistent performances from our team. We are paying attention to our game and our focus right now and if we accomplish that the standings will take care of themselves.”

The Commodores will travel Karen Grygiel and Tara Kane, coming off all-tournament performances in the championship effort, Mandy Keily, the MVP of the Wisconsin-Whitewater tournament, Michelle Peloquin, Josie Earnest, Kaitlin Reynolds and Ashley Belden.

This weekend’s tournament will have five teams games Saturday afternoon and four Baker games (best 3 of 5) Sunday with the champion determined by wins and losses, not total pins.
