BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The No. 12/14 Vanderbilt women’s basketball travels to play UAB on Thurs., Nov. 30, at Bartow Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.

The Commodores are off to a 6-0 start for the third time in four years. Vanderbilt’s best start under Head Coach Melanie Balcomb, now in her fifth season, was a 10-0 beginning to the 2003-04 season. The Commodores won the SEC Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Tournament that year.

Seniors Carla Thomas and Caroline Williams lead the Commodores in scoring, averaging 17.2 and 15.8 points, respectively. Thomas is the Commodores top threat inside, while Williams is dangerous on the perimeter. They have combined to score in double-figures 10 times this season.

UAB enters Thursday’s contest with an 0-5 record, having most recently lost at Jackson State on Monday. The Blazers are 0-3 at home with defeats at the hands of Ole Miss, Louisiana-Monroe and Chattanooga. Senior guard Carmen Guzman leads UAB with 22.6 points per game.

Fresh off a four-game homestand which included a victory over 16th-ranked California in the championship game of the Vanderbilt Thanksgiving Tournament, the Commodores will play three of their next four contests on the road.

In that stretch, Vanderbilt’s lone home game comes on Sun., Dec. 3, when the Dores play host to Clemson for a nationally-televised game (ESPN2). The contest has been designated a “Pink Out,” with all fans in attendance encouraged to wear pink to show their support of the fight against breast cancer. Half of all ticket proceeds from the game will be donated to research efforts at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center.
