Dores to Open Outdoor Season in Tampa

Vanderbilt will compete in USF’s Alumni Invitational Friday and Saturday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt track and field opens its outdoor season Friday at the USF Alumni Invitational in Tampa, Florida.

The team wrapped up its indoor season earlier in March when SEC Co-Freshman Field Athlete of the Year Giavonna Meeks represented the Dores in Boston at the NCAA Indoor Championships where she placed sixth in the weight throw with a 21.73-meter throw.

At the SEC Indoor Championships, Vandy student-athletes tallied 25 points with eight Dores scoring in seven events. Action was highlighted by Meeks’ 23.04-meter toss in the weight throw, which earned third place. Also in the throws, Sarah Omoregie placed third in the shot put, recording an indoor personal best 17.11-meter mark. On the track, the distance medley relay team of Emma Curry, Allyria McBride, Audrey Allman and Julia Rosenberg earned a bronze medal and recorded the No. 2 time in school history, 11:15.13. Additional Commodore scorers included Veronica Fraley in the shot put, McBride in the long jump, Madison Murray in the pentathlon and Rosenberg in the 3,000 meters.

Over the course of the indoor season, the team reset four school records and had 18 top 10 performances in program history. Thirty-six individual marks by active Commodore student-athletes rank in the school’s all-time top 10.

During the 2023 outdoor season, Vandy recorded its best finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in 27 years, scoring 13 points. Five Dores earned outdoor All-America honors, Beatrice Juskeviciute (first team) in the heptathlon, Brooke Overholt (first team) and McBride (second team) in the 400-meter hurdles, Taiya Shelby (second team) in the 400 meters and Fraley (second team) in the shot put.

Eight school records were broken and 33 program all-time top 10 performances were recorded over the entire 2023 outdoor season.

Events in Tampa begin at 1 p.m. EST Friday with the pole vault. Action on the track kicks off at 4:40 p.m. EST with the 800 meters. The meet will be streamed on ESPN+, live results are available online.
