Women’s Cross Country to Compete in Pre-Nationals

The meet will be held at the site of the 2023 NCAA Championship race

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt women’s cross country will head to Charlottesville, Virginia, to compete in its last regular season meet, the XC23 Invitational. The 2023 NCAA DI Cross Country Championships will take place at the same site in November.

The Commodores will have the opportunity to race against several nationally ranked and SEC opponents Saturday as they prepare for postseason competitions.

Teams competing in the meet’s Blue Race include No. 19 Arkansas, No. 6 BYU, Cal Poly, Charlotte, Dartmouth, Liberty, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana State, Ohio, No. 17 Oregon, Penn, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Quinnipiac, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Villanova, No. 7 Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Washington State and Wyoming.

At the Commodores’ last meet, the Joe Piane Invitational, Julia Rosenberg led the women’s team to an eighth-place finish in the Blue Division. She placed 31st individually in the 5-kilometer race and turned in a time of 17:19.8. Ella Lambert finished 39th, followed by Caroline Eck who was 40th overall. Lainey Phelps and Audrey Allman rounded out Vandy’s top-5 performers at the meet.

Freshman Colette Kinsella made her collegiate debut at the meet, where she placed 13th overall in the Open Division with a time of 17:56.3.

Several Commodores, Rosenberg, Lambert (17:25.1), Phelps (17:34.8), Emma Curry (17:53.7), Ashlee Gallegos (18:06.3) and Gigi Clifford (18:23.2), recorded personal best times in Notre Dame.

The women’s Blue Race at the XC23 Invitational will begin at 9:30 a.m. CT Saturday. The meet will be livestreamed and results will be available online.
