Once-in-a-lifetime experience for the Commodores in Italy

  • Day 8 of the Vanderbilt women’s basketball Italian tour included a stop at the Colosseum.

  • In the morning, the team took time to explore the beautiful city of Rome.
  • The morning included a trip to the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps.
  • Gelato in Rome is a MUST.

  • In the afternoon, the group headed to Vatican City to visit the Vatican.
  • The Commodores took a guided tour of the historic grounds.
  • The tour concluded with a once-in-a-lifetime experience at the Sistine Chapel, seeing the work of Michelangelo.

  • The Commodores took the bus to Rome for the second and final game of their Italian tour.
  • Facing Spain Select, the Dores dug themselves out of a first-half deficit for a 69-62 victory.
  • Sacha Washington accounted for 21 points with Justine Pissott adding 17 of her own.

  • The travel party explored Lucca with a bike tour.
  • The team learned the history of the city through a guided tour on a beautiful, sunny Italian morning.

  • The Commodores departed Venice and traveled to Florence for a day of exploring.
  • The day included a guided walking tour through the heart of Venice.
  • The highlight was a visit to Accademia Gallery to view Michelangelo’s famous “The David” sculpture.

  • Day three of the Italy trip featured a food tasting tour in the morning.
  • The team walked to three different restaurants in Venice to experience the local cuisine.

 

  • After the food tour, the team headed by boat and then bus to its first game of the trip.
  • The Commodores featured balanced scoring, defeating the Italy All-Stars by a 111-51 final score.
  • Seven Dores scored in double figures on the day led by 14 from Justine Pissott, 13 from Khamil Pierre and 12 from Jada Brown.

  • Day two in Italy included boat trips to nearby Burano and Murano.
  • The sightseeing portion of the day was highlighted by a demonstration of glassblowing and learning how glass is shaped into different objects.

 

  • The Commodores flew from Nashville to Venice with a layover in Atlanta, arriving on Italian soil on Aug. 6.

  • After a quick boat ride from the airport to Venice, the team enjoyed lunch.
  • Following lunch, there was a guided walking tour through the square in Venice. The Commodores learned the history of the square and enjoyed the beautiful weather.
