Commodores Crush Personal-Best Records

ATHENS, Ga. – Vanderbilt swimming wrapped up day three of the SEC Championships, earning three personal-best and five season-best times Thursday.

Dominating the start of the meet for the Commodores, freshman Lizzy Colwell competed in the 400-yard individual medley, shattering Vanderbilt’s freshman record of 4:22.78 in the event while racing a season-best 4:20.91.

Maintaining momentum for the Dores, five student-athletes competed in the 100-yard butterfly with freshman Tonner DeBeer leading with a 54.23.

Sophomore Brooke Ellis earned her first personal-best of the meet in the 50-yard butterfly, touching the wall at 56.82. Fellow sophomore Kaley Buchanan finished close behind, setting a season-best time in 56.97.

Heading into the team’s final event, six Dores battled in the 200-yard freestyle with freshman Krislyn Porter collecting her second personal-best time of the week in 1:53.67.

“Racing two of my personal-best times alongside many of my teammates has been so exciting, and it’s a strong testament to all of our hard work this season. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the meet brings,” said Porter.

Sophomore Reagan Roob also earned her personal-best time in the event, touching in 1:52.30, breaking her previous record of 1:52.81.

Senior Mary Beckwith raced her final freestyle event as a Commodore, closing out the event by securing a collegiate-best 1:54.40, three seconds faster than her season-best 1:57.72.

The Dores will start day four of the SEC Championships on Friday by competing in the 200-yard individual medley prelims, followed by the prelims for the 100-yard backstroke. The team will conclude prelims by racing in the 100-yard breaststroke.

The Commodores will return to the pool Friday night to battle in the 400-yard medley relay.
