Gross Cleans Up Award Honors

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt freshman Bri Gross has secured her second American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week honor, the conference announced on Tuesday.

Gross helped lead the Commodores (5-1) to a 1-1 week with a win on the road against Arizona State and a double overtime loss at San Diego state.

At Arizona State on March 5, she set a career-high with seven draw controls in the Commodores’ 15-14 victory. Gross then stuffed the stat sheet once again at San Diego State, scoring a goal with four draw controls, a ground ball and two caused turnovers in Vanderbilt’s narrow 14-15 double-overtime loss.

Gross currently ranks first on the team in draw controls (21), second in assists (7) and is tied for sixth in goals (6).

Hadley Brown also had herself an impressive week with multi-goal performances in both games for the Commodores.

Brown led the Commodores in scoring with five goals in two games. She scored two goals on two shots in the 15-14 win at Arizona State. She also added a ground ball, draw control and a caused turnover in that game.

In Vanderbilt’s second game of the week against San Diego State, Brown delivered a hat trick with one goal coming on a free position attempt. She also hauled in a season-high four draw controls in that game.

Vanderbilt returns home this week for a two-game homestand. The Commodores face New Hampshire on Wednesday at 3 p.m. CT and Winthrop on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT. Admission to both games is free. The games can be watched online at facebook.com/VanderbiltAthletics.
