Commodores Head to Furman

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt kicks off its five-game road trip on Sunday when it travels to Greenville, South Carolina, to face Furman at 11 a.m. CT.
 
The Commodores (2-0) are coming off a 20-11 victory over Kennesaw State last week. The Dores were led by Sophie Furlong and Bri Gross in the game, and their performances were rewarded by the American Athletic Conference.
 
Gross was named the AAC Freshman of the Week after scoring one goal and adding a career-high four assists. Furlong made it on the AAC Weekly Honor Roll for the second straight week after tying her career-high with five goals.
 
Vanderbilt is ranked in the top-five nationally with 28.5 points per game (fourth), 10.5 assists per game (second) and 19.5 caused turnovers per game (third).
  
Melissa Hawkins has led the way defensively for the Commodores as she leads the conference with three caused turnovers per game. Furlong is second in the AAC with averaging five goals per game.
 
Gross and Gabby Fornia are atop the conference leaders in assists per game, both tied for third with 2.5 assists per game.
 
Furman (1-2) is coming off its first win of the 2019 season after defeating Presbyterian, 19-3.
