Women's Hoops' Rookies: Taylor Hutchins

Guard looks forward to repaying mother with her Vanderbilt education

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt women’s basketball team is adding seven freshmen to its program for the 2019-20 season.

The diverse recruiting class was ranked ninth nationally by Blue Star Report.

This series will introduce and connect you with the newcomers before they even step onto the court for the Commodores.

Our second installment of the series is with Taylor Hutchins, a 5-9 guard from Mansfield, Texas.

Why did you choose Vanderbilt?
My recruiting process was very exciting. I loved the coaching staff. I chose Vanderbilt because of the academics, how well I was treated by everyone around and of course, the coaching staff.

What do you want to study at Vanderbilt?
I want to study sports law because I want to be a lawyer and I also want to stay in the athletic field.

What does it mean to you to be a Vanderbilt student-athlete?
It means the world. I would love to repay people, especially my mother, for putting so much money towards AAU and all the skill work. The opportunity to receive a Vanderbilt education and play SEC basketball is something special.

What is your family like?
They are sports freaks! Everyone in my family played a sport growing up.

What should Vanderbilt fans know about you?
I am very loving and love to watch sports. Also, French is my favorite language.
