Commodores Set for In-State Showdown with Tennessee

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt women’s basketball team is set for an in-state showdown with Tennessee on Sunday at 2 p.m. in Memorial Gymnasium. Fans can watch on ESPN2, follow live stats or listen to Charlie Mattos on WNSR 560 AM or 95.9 FM.
 
STARTING FIVE

  1. Vanderbilt fell at #20/24 Texas A&M, 69-53, on Thursday.
  2. Freshman Brinae Alexander netted a career-high 24 points on a career-high four 3-pointers made. Junior Autumn Newby pulled down a career-high 13 boards.
  3. The series is 70-9 with Tennessee leading. The Commodores have earned seven of their nine victories in Nashville and two on neutral courts.
  4. Vanderbilt has not beaten Tennessee since the 2013-14 season in Nashville when the Commodores won, 74-63.
  5. Four Commodores (Alexander, Cierra Walker, Mariella Fasoula and LeaLea Carter) are averaging double-figures in league play.

 
SCOUTING REPORT

  • The Volunteers have lost six of their last eight games and come into the contest with a 14-7 mark on the season (3-5 SEC).
  • Tennessee has won its last two at home taking down Florida and LSU.
