Goalkeeper Tyler Griffin gained the highest honor for Vanderbilt by being named First Team All-SEC. This was <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Tyler’s first season playing for the Dores and has come up big in crucial games. She transferred from the University of North Carolina in 2003. Tyler’s season best has been 13 saves against #14 Florida on October 10, 2004. “Tyler Griffin has made an immediate impact on this program,” said Hill. “She has been the backbone of the defense throughout the season. Tyler’s greatest strength as a goalkeeper is her ability to make the big save to keep her team in the game. Throughout the SEC season, she has made that big save in tight games to keep us in the match. Sometimes saves so big, she ignited our team and our play instantly improved.”

Junior midfielder Meghan Habig gained Second Team All-SEC honors. Habig has played extremely well for Vanderbilt this season. She has frequently been named on the top of the SEC for goals scored and goals per game. Meghan has started all games this season for the Dores and has registered seven goals and one assist. Meghan also scored the game-winning goal against LSU. Said Coach Hill, “Words cannot describe how incredibly proud I am of Meghan Habig. She has experienced her fair share of ups and downs as a Vanderbilt soccer player, and through her persistence ,this season she has risen to the top.”

“Throughout the season, she has played with confidence in not only her abilities on the field, but also in her team. Her intensity level so high at times that she creates a positive and energized atmosphere for the rest of the team. Leading the SEC in goals is a difficult task for any player. Meghan has proven her ability to not only score goals, but to lead this team in every aspect.”

Two Commodore freshman also received bids to the All-Freshman SEC team; Sarah Dennis and Meredith Kohn. Forward Sarah Dennis started the season with a bang becoming the ‘one to watch’ by other teams. Sarah leads the Dores with shots at 35 for the season. She has also turned in eight points with three goals and two assists. Sarah’s first goal of the season came at the Dores season opener against ACC opponent WakeForest. “There is no doubt that Sarah Dennis is one of the hardest working players on our team,” said Hill. “She came into this program very fit, excited and focused on our team’s success. Her athleticism makes it very difficult for other teams to play against.”

Freshman midfielder Meredith Kohn has played almost 1300 minutes for the Dores this season already. Meredith came to Vanderbilt from Chattahoochee high school in Alpharetta, Ga. She shows amazing endurance and speed when on the field. Said Coach Hill, “Meredith Kohn is a very technical and composed player. Those traits coupled with an amazing work rate creates a well rounded and inspirational player.”

“I am excited to watch both Meredith and Sarah continue to grow as players,” said Hill. “They will both have a tremendously bright future in commodore uniforms.”

The Commodores are currently in Auburn preparing to play MississippiState on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the first round of the SEC tournament. Tyler, Meghan, Sarah and Meredith will all be honored at tonight’s awards banquet in Auburn.
