Vandy Trio Earns NCAA Bids

Rosca, Ross and Staff earn spots in the 2021 NCAA Individual Championships

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A trio of Vanderbilt women’s tennis student-athletes were selected for the 2021 NCAA Women’s Tennis Individual Championships on Tuesday with Christina Rosca selected for the singles championship and the duo of Anna Ross and Holly Staff picked as an alternate for the doubles championship.

The individual championships will begin May 23 in Orlando, Florida, after the conclusion of the team tournament. Draws for the tournament will be announced at a later date nearing the conclusion of the NCAA Team Championship.

Rosca, who is ranked No. 44 in the latest Oracle/ITA rankings, owns a 13-5 singles record this spring and has posted wins over four ranked opponents thus far. During the season, Rosca has climbed back up the rankings and has guided Vanderbilt while winning her 200th career overall match and 100th singles match.

Starting the season unranked, Ross and Staff have kept a stronghold on Vanderbilt’s top spot in the doubles lineup and have climbed as high as No. 18 in the Oracle/ITA doubles poll. Currently at No. 28 in the country, the duo has 12 wins with four victories over nationally-ranked foes, all of which have come against SEC competition.

Before the individual tournament, Vanderbilt will compete in the team tournament for the 26th season in a row. Action starts Friday morning with the Commodores meeting Ball State at 10 a.m. CT in Columbus, Ohio, with the winner taking on 15th-seeded Ohio State or UIC at 11 a.m. CT Saturday.
